In the late 1890’s German immigrants settled in these communities, establishing thriving towns bustling with many businesses. Harness shops, bakeries, shoemakers, and dry good shops started as well as breweries, from the German’s ability to make great beer. Telephone service was established and owned by the local stock holders. The Uniontown-Colton Telephone Company was sold to Harold Weis in 1963. By 1966, direct dial became possible. Uniontown is now recognized as a rural farming town and bedroom community for Pullman, WA and Moscow, ID to the northeast and Lewiston, ID and Clarkston, WA to the southeast. The Uniontown and Colton service area provides service to the towns of Uniontown, Colton, and Johnston, WA, Leon, ID as well as the surrounding rural areas. Inland Networks provides Telephone, Long Distance, and DSL Internet to these areas. The Uniontown and Colton service area consists of approximately 143 square miles serving 585 access lines and 29 access lines in Leon, ID area .
